Day 1
From Trencin, start early and drive to the beautiful castle of Bojnice (65 km, 1 hour) (http://www.bojnicecastle.sk/)

From Bojnice, drive to the historic village of Cicmany (38 km, 45 mins)

Day 2
From Oravsky Podzamok, drive to the UNESCO village of Vlkolinec (25 km, 25 mins)

If you have kids who like water theme parks, go to Liptovsky Mikulas (26 km, 25 mins)

If not, continue the idyllic town of Banska Stiavnica. From Aug 15-24, the European Cultural festival is happening (100 km, 1.5 hrs). On the way, stop by Banska Bystrica if you want to see a beautiful cave, only 13 km away. There are many places to eat and overnight in Banska Stiavnica.

Alternate Option: Go further into Eastern Slovakia! (2-3 days)
From Liptovsky Mikulas, travel onwards to see the High Tatras Mountains, where there is plenty of hiking and quaint cottages to sleep: Popradske pleso (50km, 30 mins) (http://www.popradskepleso.sk/)

From Popradske pleso, go to Levoca, a typical Eastern Slovak town to see the tallest gothic alter in the world, handcrafted from wood (52km, 1 hr)

From Levoca, go see the largest castle in Central Europe, Spissky Hrad, above a typical Gypsy village (15km, 15 mins).

From Spissky Hrad, continue to Banska Stiavnica (200 km, 2.5 hrs). See description above for more information. Overnight here, and continue as described below.
Day 3
From Banska Stiavnica, continue to the metropolitan city of Nitra (82 km, 1.25 hrs). Walk around and have lunch.
From Nitra, continue to Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia (92 km, 1 hr). See the old town, eat in the many excellent restaurants, and overnight. See "Holiday Suggestion 2" for some tips on what to see in Bratislava.
Days 4 & 5
From Bratislava, drive to Budapest, Hungary; one of the capitals of the Austro-Hungarian empire and one of the most beautiful cities in the region (200 km, 2 hrs). Very helpful information can be found here:
